Tropical paradise at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort.

Stepping off the plane, we could feel the tropical heat and the welcoming gentle breeze of Fiji. Bula – welcome to paradise.

Gentle breeze of paradise …
After a one-hour drive from Nadi airport, we arrived at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, where we were pleasantly surprised and somewhat relieved to find it met all expectations – something you never know when booking from afar.

It felt as though someone had put the ‘chrome’ insta filter over our eyes with the vibrant blue hues of the ocean, lush green tropical palm trees and sweeping panoramic views of the white sand combining to overtake the senses. Not sure if it was the pregnancy hormones taking over, but this truly was paradise.

While barefoot Fijians played island music in the foyer, we were greeted by our hosts and given a refreshing tropical drink to cool us down. The Fijians truly live up to their name of being the friendliest people on earth. Their massive smiles, twinkly eyes, friendly and warm personalities and their happy disposition.

“Not sure if it was the pregnancy hormones taking over, but this truly was paradise.”

A beautiful babymoon
Here we were on our babymoon in paradise! The whole concept of a ‘babymoon’ is relatively new, but for us avid travelers, any excuse to jump on a plane and we are there!

Essentially a babymoon is a holiday for parents-to-be to enjoy some R&R before the baby is born. But, we put a slightly different spin on the concept by bringing along our 4-year old, Daisy, so it was more of a holiday to celebrate life together before we become a family of four.

Choosing the destination for us was easy. We were all craving a tropical destination and some ‘time out’ to disconnect and reconnect as a family of three, without all the everyday distractions of work, domestic life and prepping for a new addition, as well as expose Daisy to a new culture and way of life in new country. Having been to Fiji several times in the past, we had only ever experienced it as a couple, so bringing a toddler into the mix, it was essential we found somewhere that allowed us to still enjoy some R&R.

Fiji ticked all the boxes and more. Pool(s), beach bure’s, several restaurants to choose from, nanny service, kids club, kids eat for free, nice beaches, spa, scenic and picturesque… the list goes on.

Fiji is the perfect choice!
When deciding on your destination another thing to consider is the time of year you are going to be going on your Babymoon in terms of prices for peak season and also, weather considerations.

The biggest decision each day was to choose between the beach or poolside? Most days were spent with a leisurely breakfast, followed by swimming in the huge resort pool with the option for those who are feeling active to join in daily activities like beach volleyball, swimming competitions, learn to dive lessons, tennis comps, hair braiding and pool Zumba! And with six restaurants to choose from we were spoiled for choice come meal time.

Each afternoon, we would walk along the beach or go diving or snorkeling and take Daisy on rockpool rambles looking for shells. Sunkissed and relaxed, we would dress for dinner and try the daily kava ritual, watch the traditional dances, fire twirling and firewalking and meet with other families. On the odd occasion, Daisy joined the resort’s Kids Club for a few hours whilst we enjoyed the serenity of the adults only pool and sipped on a few cocktails/mocktails!

We also tried out the infamous MeiMei nanny service whereby we were assigned one nanny for the whole stay and could call upon her when we needed a night off. We were fortunate to have FiFi, a local Fijian lady, who immediately struck up a rapport with Daisy and she would take her on beach walks, make jewellery with her, sing songs, paint seashells and pop her to bed for us. Like any nanny service, we were a bit tentative at first, but Daisy was so enamoured with FiFi, she didn’t want to leave her and now wants to be pen pals!

This stunning island holiday paradise filled with striking natural beauty and some of the warmest and most welcoming locals on earth, was perfect for our babymoon, providing the best place for romance, relaxation, family togetherness and authentic Fijian hospitality.

Man, Figi has been high on my bucket list for a while ! Would love to see more pictures 🙂 How does the cost of visiting Figi stack up to other places you’ve been…. on the higher end I’m assuming? Thanks for sharing – Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for your note. It’s definitely more expensive than South East Asia but not too bad if you hunt around for good deals and flights which are always around. Definitely worth it as the people are so friendly and where we stayed, kids eat for free which helps as well. Such an incredible place and well worth a visit if you can! ??
